LE GRAND JD

Le Grand JD, whose real name is Julien Donzé, is a Swiss videographer, cameraman, editor and director. He set up his channel in 2009 and is one of the first generation of French-speaking Youtubers. He is renowned for his reports from the field, including Fukushima, the war in Ukraine and Iraq. He's also been on the trail of the lynx in the Swiss Jura and the bear in Romanian towns. And he has covered environmental issues such as deforestation in Borneo and the melting of permafrost in northern Canada. In addition, he is renowned for his horror videos and his explorations of abandoned or haunted sites.

NOUS LES REGARDONS MOURIR #Le Grand JD

In this video, Le Grand JD travels up one of Europe's greatest rivers to its source, the Rhône glacier, to see how it is melting. In 2024, this glacier lost 0.5m in height over its entire surface. As has been the case for some years now, glaciers are melting faster and faster. This year again, Swiss glaciers lost 2.5% of their mass. Le Grand JD meets glaciologist Saskia Gindraux, who explains the issues surrounding the loss of our glaciers.

Pour ce documentaire, Le Grand JD a été accompagnée par un expert, que vous pouvez découvrir ci-bas.

# SASKIA GINDRAUX
# Glaciologue, CREALP

After completing a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Sciences at the University of Lausanne and a Master's in Geography at the University of Zurich, focused on alpine regions, Saskia Gindraux completed a PhD in Glaciology at ETH Zurich. She then undertook a six-month internship at the SLF in Davos and participated in the Juneau Icefield Program in Alaska, where she supervised a group of Bachelor's students for eight weeks. After her PhD, she moved into the private sector, working at geoformer igp AG, where she led projects on natural hazards and supervised a glacier monitoring team. Since 2022, she has been a scientific collaborator at CREALP, specializing in hydrogeology, natural hazards, and glaciology. Her interests are centered on mountain and polar regions, with a particular focus on frozen environments (glaciers, snow, permafrost). She is skilled in using high-precision measurement tools, such as LiDAR and drones, as well as optical image processing and remote sensing.

Ces travaux sont soutenus par des données de terrain collectées grâce à des UAVs, accessibles sur la plateforme EnviDat à travers le jeu de données UAV Datasets for Three Alpine GlaciersTogether, these works advance the use of remote sensing technologies to study glaciers and natural hazards in mountainous regions, while also enhancing our understanding of climate change impacts.
